Albany Technical College
1580 Southlake Parkway Suite C, Morrow, GA
Albany Technical College, located in Albany, Georgia, traces its founding to two schools, the first occurring in 1961 through the establishment of Monroe Vocational-technical School with an initial enrollment of 175. Albany Area Vocational-Technical School was established shortly after and the two schools merged in 1972 forming Albany Technical Institute. In 1988 the school came under the control of the Technical College System of Georgia, resulting in an expansion of the schools service area to the counties of Baker, Clay, Dougherty, Calhoun, Terrell, Randolph and Lee. In 2000 the school was allowed to change its name to Albany Technical College along with other schools in the system.
Education
Albany Technical College offers a large number of programs designed to provide development of pertinent skills in one's chosen area of study. These programs are designed to impart theoretical and practical education by introducing and educating students in the methods and techniques used for the completion of specialized tasks. Students will learn how to apply learned skills to a real world setting through the use of controlled environments that allow students better develop their skills and abilities; which in turn results in experience that is beneficial when seeking employment. Most programs take between one and two years to complete, and result in a diploma, certificate or degree that demonstrates competency in the area studies and allows for the pursuit of job opportunities at the entry level. Students interested in continuing their education may transfer some of their credits to schools within the University System of Georgia.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Albany Technical College is a public two year institution that maintains an open enrollment policy, allowing any students that wishes to enroll to do so through the completion of the application for admission and the payment of incurred fees, including tuition. Students must provide previous transcripts if available, and may supply standardized test scores which may be used in lieu of a placement exam. New students should participate in orientation to familiarize themselves with the school and meet with a counselor to discuss program enrollment and curriculum.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Individuals in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which will be used to determine a student's financial needs and aid program eligibility. Financial aid must be applied for prior to each academic year, and students receiving aid may be asked to provide additional tax information that will be compared to the information provided on one's FAFSA in order to verify its accuracy. Students may also seek scholarships from secondary sources. Such scholarships require a separate application and are awarded for a variety of reasons.
